The Artist Behind the Brush

I’m Pragathi — a watercolour artist, a wife, a mom, and someone who will never say no to coffee and sweets.

By profession, I’m an engineer… but honestly, watercolour is where my heart truly lives. I started painting more regularly in January 2020, and since then, it’s become a part of who I am. My favourite time to paint is early in the morning, between 5 and 7 a.m., when everything is quiet and the world still feels asleep. There’s something magical about that silence.

More than a decade ago, I spent about three years going to weekend art classes - those classes gave me so much. So many little techniques, tiny tips, and a lot of joy. I did try oil painting for a while, but it never quite felt right for me. It took too long to dry, and my mind would already be wandering to the next idea before I could finish one piece.

Life got busy after that. Work, family, responsibilities… and painting slowly took a backseat.

But then came our dream home.

I remember imagining my own paintings on the walls, filling the space with something personal. And when lockdown happened, something shifted. I picked up my brushes again… and this time, I didn’t stop.

I’ve always been drawn to loose, expressive painting — not too detailed, not too controlled. I love letting the water do its thing, watching colours flow and blend in ways I can’t fully predict. That unpredictability is what I enjoy the most.

Over time, I’ve learned from online classes and also taken a few paid courses, including from Jean Haines. I admire artists like Yuko Nagayama, Jean Haines, Schuwaller, and so many others. There’s always something new to learn, and I’m constantly trying to grow, improve, and create art that feels true to me.

All the artworks you see here are available for sale.

If something speaks to you, feel free to DM me on social media or send me an email — I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you for being here and spending a little time in my world of watercolour.

Love and hope,
Pragathi
